Meh, you shouldn't declaw cats. Past their teeth, that's their only method of defense.
It would be like only untying someone's hands when they want to eat. You couldn't use them to protect yourself.

cool cats everyone. i dont have a cat. but i kind of want one. i wont be able to though because 2 people in my family are allergic to them. Sad

I agree. In addition, if you have a problem with cats hurting people, then the cat is likely not happy in its environment. People in this situation should consider giving the cat to a family it is more suited to.

I agree. In addition, if you have a problem with cats hurting people, then the cat is likely not happy in its environment. People in this situation should consider giving the cat to a family it is more suited to.
Or make the cat an outdoors cat. IMHO keeping a cat cooped up in a house or apartment isn't right. They should be free.

I meant that she was accidently hurting people. Like jumping onto you lap and falling off (and having claws out) and she was scratching furniture.

i don't like dogs because one decided too jump up and bite my knee, a cat once put long great scratches down mt leg.

I had a guinea pig till she died

my dog scratches people too when she's playing. of course, she doesnt mean any harm, but she cant help having claws. but when they're trimmed and stuff, she's fine. :bounce:

Domesticated cats are meant to be indoors. Outdoor cats lead shorter lives than their indoor counterparts. Also, as for declawing, behavior modifications may work for intentional scratching, and for accidental scratching, you can try claw caps which can be placed on the claws. Also a scratching post can help the cat wear down its own claws on a safe surface, just visit your pet store.
