I've disabled my diskette drive.
I couldn't get it to work with my stupid motherboard, (old drive, new motherboard)
I bought my first diskettes back in 93-94, it was roughly $10 for 10.
10 diskettes nowadays would go for roughly... $2. like Nath said.. lol
I wonder if it's quality that has dropped, or if they have found cheaper ways of making diskettes (ofcourse the fact that CD's aso exist also make the price drop)

Maybe floppies are being made cheap on purpose so the technology will continue to fade away...
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

I did that myself, and on purpose.

Always use CDs they are cheap and very much reliable =). And now CD-RWs are becoming very common so you wont have difficulty transfering files to and fro =)

USB memory cards (memory sticks) are the best way to go nowadays...although I do love this USB IDE enclosure...you can make a portable drive any size you want
We got a 20GB in it right now...partitioned and everything...

agree.
I just use my camera for everything. I have one of those nexx retractable cables for it in my backpack, and it's recognized by any ME+ box.
and to the original poster, yes I've had an awful time with floppies as well. The most reliable seems to be if you format them after each use. (full, not quick)

usb flash drives drives are what i use now... they work great. Fast (read up to 15 mps, write up to 13 mps), they're quiet, they're durable (i always keep mine in my pocket, not a scratch so far, plus i read they could survive washing machines. one i read about has a titanium shell: it could survive up to 2000 pounds. :o ) their data rendition is 10 years, so you don't need to worry about losing data. it's also good for a million read/writes. they can come with security software, and other types of software as well. one even has a fingerprint recognision software. my only complaint is that the cap is often easy to lose, and the drive is often easy to lose as well. and i've found that they don't work well with my school's computers that use windows 2000. (one day the computer will ready it, the next day the same computer will tell me i don't have sufficient privileges to install drivers. wtf? 2000 doesn't need drivers...)
anyways, they're good if you need to move around lots and edit lots of stuff. however, nothing beats a bunch of dvd-r for storing gigabytes of information. they're cheapest in the long run.
