unreliable floppys

Quote:Yep. All my discs work perfectly, after all the time Ive had them. One important note though: Dont be sloppy with them. Keep them off the floor, in a clean shelf or environment. Just a small amount of dust getting on them can corrupt them, Ive found.

Really? I live in a very dusty area. I'm in the middle of the desert where dust storms happen every so often.
It might be my drive, but I have another computer with a floppy drive and it seems to have the same crappy consistency.
Cdrw's are great, but my cdwriter died too.
I'll have get one of those usb drives as soon as I can. I just need something to backup my work to everyday.

We live on the shore (and I don't mean a mile away or a few blocks away...I mean literally...on the shore) of the Atlantic Ocean...and salty air is a major problem not only for floppy disks but also for CDROMs. I've lost a number of CDROMs thus far, and the high heat tends to play havoc with computer components as well. For some reason, hard drives are seeming unaffected by both factors, so for us, the USB IDE case was great. Big Grin

I believe they make those USB card thingoes as keychains as well...
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

usb flash drives double as keychains, your right. which means if you misplaced your keys then you misplaced your work as well. they can be amazingly small too: one is the length and height of two pennies put side by side!
Jumping Jahoolipers!
