Quote:Nope. I, for one, refuse to make one version of my websites for IE and another for browsers who make the effort to display stuff properly.

Unfortunately the problems with IE largely stem from the fact that Microsoft is a monopoly and won the browser wars a long time ago. With most everyday home computer users still using Windows, and with IE being bolted into the package, most will never switch to another browser and will simply assume that any site that doesn't work with their browser is broken. Microsoft doesn't need to devote a large amount of effort to IE development anymore because they already have everyone using it.

In a perfect world everyone would want to use a standards compliant browser and Microsoft probably would be forced to rework IE. If you are designing websites according to the standard and that causes them to render incorrectly (to a noticeable degree) with IE, you are bound to get a call from an IE user at some stage requesting that you fix it. Its one of those no win situations, you want to develop standards complaint pages, but you also want full browser compatibility. I can't recall who said it, but this quote about sums it up:
Quote:The good thing about standards is, you have so many to choose from.

I never said the contrary Wink

Quote:but if you can use a standards compliant browser why settle for anything less?

Because I don't need "more". I've never had a problem Wink

Please, enlighten me. Seriously. Show me a web page that renders incorrectly in IE and correctly in firefox.

I've been using IE since I got internet, mainly 'cause I am too lazy to try another one and to set it up to run and start up as fast as IE does (I know IE cheats, but what matters to me as a user is which browser starts, runs and renders faster), and I never got to a page which was rendered badly (it happened, though, with good ol' Netscape all the time Tongue).

I want to see what does IE so bad. Don't talk me about W3C or whatever it is called, I don't even know what it is Tongue. Just show me facts.

I'm really curious, just that.

I will surely try. But my old policy of whatever-happens-dont-react-to-an-idiots-post-when-he-savagely-attacks-you-in-a-public-forum-and -tells-you-to-shut-up is out of the window. I am going to follow the new no-first-use policy. If someone swears at me. I'll do the same . Then you can delete all the posts ^^.

Nath, Mozilla 1.4.1 starts as faster than IE on my system(uncached and cached both). I dont know about you =P. About rendering, both Mozilla nd IE render all the webpages correctly. I too haven't yet come accross a page that IE rendered incorrectly.

Also, as a user the features of a browser matter a *lot* to me. I visit a lot of sites and need to remember a lot of logins and passwords. IE doesnt do that too well for me. But mozilla does it perfectly. Also, IE doesnt have a download manager whereas mozilla does =P

IE works fine remembering passwords for me, but i really don't see why everybody is so hyped up about this whole dowload manager bit...its not that great...

You may not feel the download manager isnt great because you may be on a DSL/Cable a.k.a 'Always On' connection. For dial up users or those who have frequent disconnections its very useful. And remember majority of the people are still 56Kers

I am using WinME on a 2.8GHz P4 HT 800MHz FSB with 256MB DDR400 and mozilla starts faster than IE :o

Which version of Mozilla are you using? I am using 1.4.1 and it works really fast.

Just tested that one out, firefox certianly is a bit faster than IE! Also I use firfox simply because it up-to-date. Also I find that it doesn't have a habit of crashing, oh and tabbed browsing!¬
