Windows XP Problems
#1
Can anyone please explain why my stupid Windows XP Home often refuses to retain the folder settings I set, especially on folders I create on the Desktop, to avoid having to use the wretched Programs list under the start button that vanishes every time I even sneeze!!

The opening for drive C: in My Computer always opens maximized, no matter how I last set it at minimized. I seldom seem to get these problems with dear old Win 98 on my laptop - so much for Windows progress??

I have the same problem. It thinks the root of C: is a picture file, and all my music files are picture files.

All I know is that there are always hidden files on my customized files, one is a .TIF file.

Could be this.

It can't be a virus. I installed Mcafee Virus scan recently and it hasn't found anything.

I too have just checked with a virus scan by Norton and an Adaware Spyware check. The latter only found a couple of low level spyware - now deleted.

Looks like Win XP is not so marvelous after all

I don't have problems with it, so it is a misconfiguration/malware on your side. Use the panda antivirus online scanner, upgrade to SP2 and use Ad Aware.

i love it when people blame the operating system. I myself have never had such a problem. and yes, i think plasma's link gave a pretty good explanation of the situation
