BTW Jofers didn't say giving blood / plasma was unhealthy. What he meant was doing it often is unhealthy. Every once in a while is fine, but doing it all the time is like running a car with no oil all the time.. We all know what happens there.

I disagree. Unless you are anemic or have some other blood or bone marrow disorder, you can give whole blood bimonthly and not be affected. Blood cells are destroyed every day in your spleen and replenished by your bone marrow within a few weeks. As long as you are well hydrated, your plasma will replenish quickly. It also depends on what exactly you are donating. If you are just donating platelets, for example, which is the part of the blood with the shortest shelf life, you can donate every 3 days because the rest of the blood is replaced into the donor's body.

I don't care enough about the specific health details about bloodgiving to argue about marrow or iron or none of that. I just think depending on it as a source of income is unhealthy, especially for a (16 year old?) kid.

I also believe that donating sperm as a source of income is just, uh, no. Do NOT donate sperm to fund a trip to Alaska, there's all kinds of wrong with that, not that it's even legal for anyone under 18 (giving 15-year-old strangers porn and asking them to jizz in a cup had better be illegal).

Perhaps we should just drop this blood donation argument. I just brought it up as an idea to help Rokkuman get a few extra bucks (I didn't know how young he is). I feel like we've lost focus of the origional thread. If this is still a hot topic for discussion maybe it should be moved to it's own thread?
