This is stupid.
There isnt even any challenge.
Make a demo.. of what?
In what?
With what?
What limits? (Apart from the ones we know you will enforce AAP)
I'll say it again for impact,
This is stupid.
And again.. AAP! you can _NOT_ create anything openGL wise using only GFXLIB, it is IMPOSSIBLE.
The **ONLY** thing you are _ABLE_ to do is create a WINDOW. You are UNABLE to draw ANYTHING or do ANYTHING with it.
UNLESS you use the openGL library
I hope this is perfectly clear, if it isnt.. learn to read!

Man, I didn't expect such a lengthy explanation. I was just kidding around. From what it sounded like, I thought you were saying it's ok to initialize ogl, but not to draw anything... maybe it was just Z!re's sarcasm.
Anyway, good luck!

Damn z!re, it's simple, if you don't like his rules then don't enter. I understand you posting your opinion about his rules but you don't have to be a bitch about it. And making fun of his english was pretty low.

Zire: Take it easy.. Think at your blood pressure .
AAP contests are easy to win, the dificulty is in having your entry accepted. Probably you will have even to rewrite your README file.. If you are accepted you have chances to be the only one....
Quote:I have successfully removed the âoffenseâ lists that ultimately plagued my three QuickBASIC Caliber Programming Compos, simply because all they did, really, was added a bunch of senseless âlegalismâ to them causing the people to not enter at all as a result of that

Antoni: Heh.
The reason for my first post was not to put AAP down, or to knock his compo, rather, to show some pretty glaring..."mistakes"...in his rules.
MysticShadows, there is one thing in having rules to a competition...the style of demo, the deadline, the filesizes etc., but there is another thing in making whoever is entering feel like they are part of some barbaric dogma.
I still don't understand the OpenGL thing. Zire is absolutely right, and I don't see how you are supposed to do anything once you've initialised a form. Or is that the kind of "retro" you are aiming for?
And for whoever mentioned Zire's insulting of AAP's english: While I don't condone the way it was done, I feel it is a very valid point. Rules are rules, not a flurry of happy words and joyful splendor. The over-formatting everything is also completely unnecesary. Like I've said before, this completely detracts from the "professional" image that AAP seems to want to make.
You want to see professional websites? http://www.zeldman.com, http://www.binarybonsai.com, http://simplebits.com. Those are professional websites, with professional writing.
For emphasis, the odd <em> or <strong> should be used. The english language does not have the eloquency like the Romance languages or the languages of Asia (Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic) for words themselves to give their own emphasis. However, minimal usage of the above tags is more than enough.

To AetherFox:
About my site not working properly under FireFox (FF), in more than a way, you are right. ! Here is what I know about what happened on at least my compo pages (and even my projects site so far, also!) when they showed in FF that I just tried this evening. Letâs investigate now. (p_-)
- ⢠About the <span> command, there is really nothing wrong with me using that when it came to changing the font size, font color, and font type such as......
Code: <span style="COLOR: white; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 12pt">
......as they truly came out fine under FF and worked great without crashes whatsoever. However, there *was* a problem in my changing in the HTML code to:
Code: <span style="FONT WEIGHT: 900">
......in that while it gave an EXTRA-bold style for any font successfully in MS Internet Explorer (IE), it technically caused no more than a plain-text style in FF, man. That I believe is a weakness there ( ), and I gotta be more careful when using it, alright?
⢠As for the <div> command, AetherFox, the chief problem I just found with it is that when I have used this HTML code on my compo pages which was.....
Code: <DIV id=oFilterDIV
style="position:absolute; FONT:24pt Tahoma; FILTER: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Glow(strength=2, color:'white')
progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Shadow(color='gray', Direction=125, Strength=4)
progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.MotionBlur(strength=3, direction=90)
progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Blur(pixelradius=1);>
.....it gave out a desired special effect which was exclusive to IE, but with FF, the effects were not even there at all, which was another big problem there that I just found out tonight. To put it another way, check this out:
- For Internet Explorer here, you get:
.....while with FireFox, you end up with:
You see my point now?
⢠Final thing: there was really nothing wrong with me disabling âright-clickingâ as a bit of a security measure on my compo pages and website, as they worked *just* as 100% great in FF just like they did in IE, without any crashes at all. I have tried it and found out tonight, man. I am not saying that it has to be perfect or anything, but I was just taking it a bit of a step ahead of the usual structure of the HTML, you see what Iâm saying? (I am not arguing with you in any way; rather, I am only honestly showing you what I do know between IE and FF, man. )
And those are the differences between IE and FF so far on at least my new compo pages. Up to now, my whole site has been designed to be optimized for IE, but I just might plan on adjusting and/or arranging at least my compo pages and even more of my site to work more properly under FF as well. This is not gonna be easy, AetherFox, but do wish me well on it, okay now? =b !
Thank you so much for your concern, and talk to you again.

Umm, you completely missed the point of my posts.
While uncompliant, unsemantic and unoptimised code works in FireFox, doesn't mean it's good code.
To put it in programming terms, your site is basically the equivalent of hardcoding the script files of an RPG into the main executable, and then converting all the graphics into DATA files and hard coding those, and then attatching the music to the end of the exe. Trying to be clever, but fucking up pretty big time.
http://www.htmlgoodies.com.
http://www.google.com - find out about "semantics" and "web standards" (or http://www.w3c.org)
In fact, just visit the first site and find out about HTML, maybe you should read a tutorial.
I also think you need to re-read my posts and find out exactly what I was saying, not reacting on the first word you might see.
