800 x 600 for typical use, ranging from 800 x 600 to 1920 x 1440 when using Photoshop and/or Flash MX.

Megaman, a good website should adapt its content to the viewer, not viceversa. The tagboard can be located at the left, below the menu, and use a horizontal layout for the link icons. An alternate solution to your dilemma.

There's no need any more to support 640x480 in web development, but it's very unpleasant for sites to require 1024. Most of the school computers run on 800, so I'm used to it there.

btw, 1280x1024 is really bad. Better off to use 1024x960 (for the proper 4:3 ratio)

I used to use 800x600 alot, but for some reason I switched over to 1024x768 one day... probably for the better since I seem to enjoy working with cluttered desktops with too many applications open at once. Wink

No, I have a computer desk. Maybe you like sitting with your monitor on your lap, I don't know.

I agree with Hex, the mark of a good web site is one that can be shown with just as little hassle for the user in any screen mode. It's always handy to use relative widths instead of absolute ones (and use css to style.

I sit about 1m (3 ft for you backward americans  ) from my monitor, it's not safe over the long run to sit any closer.
