What resolution do most of you use?

800x600, only because my little 11 (or 12, not sure) inch LCD laptop screen is too damn tiny.

Yeah, 4' is pretty far..I overestimated the distance Smile I just measured and it's almost 3' exactly.

But 10" is too close, IMO.

Why not? Are you claiming that nobody uses this anything below 800x600 now days. People with vision impairment or disabilities often need to low resolutions. Also remember that the web is no longer restricted to computer monitors; cellphones, palm-tops, laptops, web-tv and many other internet enabled devices can browse the web, but dont support the high resolutions that computer monitors are able to achieve.

Like Hex said a web site shouldnt discriminate against users. Remember that there are people out there using lowres, text browsers, 8 bit colour (watch out for those nasty, unreadable colour combos) and low bandwidth.

Remember the web is for /everyone/, so everybody should be able to use it regardless of their particular setup.

Amen. That's why the CSS2 specifications support the media="whatever" attribute. However most browsers do not support CSS2 yet

Used to have 1600x1200x32, but that was a bit too hard to read, even on my 19" CRT, so I switched to 1280x1024x32.

I can't stand using anything below a 17" monitor at 1024x768, unless I'm playing a game, because I use every inch (pixel? Smile ) of available space when I'm programming, although I don't really multitask except to the extent that I push Alt+Tab to switch. Everything's maximized and I still run out of space to view those REALLY long lines in the code editor. Smile

Ive got a 15" monitor on my home machine and that seems fine, personally I find anything over 17" hard to use except for games (too much head swing for programming). Ive got a 34" monitor (From an airport terminal) that Ive just got to convince my Dad to repair and then I can hook it up and play games :-)

I run at high res because I tend to have lots of windows open and visible, I use point to focus (window focuses when mouse pointer enters it without clicking) which I find allows me to see what Im doing much better.

Ugh, if you are using C or one of its derivatives you might want to think about putting some line breaks in your code. I dont like having lines of code longer than 80 characters, but with languages like QB its often unavoidable.

K, I hate you. ATi cards have really nice TV-out quality, but that's nothing compared to an actually huge monitor.
