I was gonna do something similar to this in #12 but now that Adigun's taking care of it, I guess I don't have to. Smile

Anyway, here are my votes (I do get a vote, right?):

• What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?

Na_th_an's I.F. tutorials are my personal favorites.

• What was the BEST ground-breaking news story that has ever been introduced from within the first 11 issues?

FreeBasic announcement, Issue #4. Blitz wrote a full news article about it.

• Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?

V1ctor. Nobody else comes close.

• What is the BEST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?

"Searching For The Unknown: Astral Worlds by K.D.A.G." by Lachie Dazdarian, Issue #11. Although it's called a "searching for the unknown" article, it's really a game review. And a damn good one at that.

• What is the WORST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?

Joseph Burke's review of Quest for Opa Opa obviously. That review was a intentionally terrible.

• What was your favorite upcoming game/project that has ever been featured in the “Gallery” section from the first 11 issues?

Syn9's Griffon Legends. Having played all of the Gallery games and written all of the articles, this is by far the best of the bunch. (I'm not sure why everyone is so gung ho about MOORPG... it's mostly vaporware right now.)

• Which excellent QB/FB site do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Site of the Year award?

Well, since I don't want to vote for my own site, I'll say QB45.com.

I'd agree on v1c getting the award for coder of the year, and I'd also agree on rattrapmax's suggestion that the most ground-breaking news was when fB came in and shook us all to the ground...

Best and worst game reviews....I don't know about that one...
Best qb site? Maybe qb45.com might be up for it, considering how they got their site working again with the active forum....[/quote]

I speed-read all the back issues over my lunch break, and I came up with this: Smile

• What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?

I can't decide between Relsoft's Metaballs (#1) or Lensflares (#4) tutorials... they both show how to do stuff that looks really cool but isn't too complicated at a low level - my favorite kind of effects. Smile

• What was the BEST ground-breaking news story that has ever been introduced from within the first 11 issues?

I suppose I'll go with the FreeBASIC announcement - I had been waiting for the public release with bated breath ( Smile ), playing around with the idea of porting it to Linux and to DOS (as you'll notice, lillo did an excellent job of porting to Linux (I would never have done as well with my meager Linux knowledge Smile ) and I didn't get my act together on DOS until version 0.11 Tongue ).

• Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?

V1ctor and lillo - both have put enormous amounts of work into the FreeBASIC compiler

• What is the BEST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?

The Larry The Dinosaur 2 by Lachie Dazdarian - it made the game look cool and made me want to play it (which I haven't done yet; thanks for reminding me! Smile )

• What is the WORST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?

The Opa Opa review by Joseph Burke... same reason as stated by the others above.

• What was your favorite upcoming game/project that has ever been featured in the “Gallery” section from the first 11 issues?

badlogic's Counter Strike 2D clone written in QB with µGL, in Issue #1 - you guys are still working on that, right? Wink

• Which excellent QB/FB site do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Site of the Year award?

www.freebasic.net - all stuff, no fluff! Big Grin

And just as an aside, my favorite article of all the QB Express issues was "Realistic 3D Modelling in QBasic: A Tutorial" by Mike Wechsler in Issue 7.

To Pete:

Yes, your vote *does* get counted as well. Big Grin And I am glad that you and many of the others are giving some really honest, no-nonsense answers right here, like the very AMAZING event of FreeBASIC rocking our QB world in such excellent spades from late last year, for instance. Wink !

You know what, these QB/FB Legends of the Year and QB/FB Site of the Year awards have got me thinking now..... this *calls* for something really good!! Cool You know what I am gonna do? I am gonna make a couple of special awards, one for QB/FB Legends of the Year, the other for QB/FB Site of the Year. And with lots of time left to spare so far before the 1st anniversary issue of QB Express, hey, what have I got to lose? I’ll do it. Big Grin=b !

I will be back with the new designs a little bit later. :wtnod: !

And to the rest of you (very important!):

If you have not already made your vote on the questions (see the very first post in this thread, please) that I have asked in honor of this *very* special annual event for the upcoming QB Express #12, then get right on cracking and let your voice be heard!! Big Grin ! Remember, like MystikShadows just said here, our deadline is Friday, July 15, 2005 (just ONE week from tomorrow!). After the deadline passes, I am gonna tabulate all of the votes together to decide the winners. ^-^

Check you out later, and thanks again!!! :king:

I've only been around for 2-3 issues, so I won't answer the other questions...but one thing is quite obvious:
• Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?
V1ctor Big Grin

• What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?
- I really liked VonGodrics GUI tutorials. Showed me a whole other way to make GUI's than the one I was using, now I use a mixture of my own methods and the ones in the tutorials. Or maybe Chaoticmass's scripting tutorials.

• What was the BEST ground-breaking news story that has ever been introduced from within the first 11 issues?
- I'd say the QBNews shutdown, I read the text about it several times.

• Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?
- I don't know, there's a lot of good QBasic and FreeBASIC programmers out there...

• What is the BEST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
- "Detective Academy Review" by Oz (issue #2)

• What is the WORST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
"The quest for Opa Opa" in QB Express #9. Didn't like that one, only told about the bad things in the game and didn't mention any good things.

• What was your favorite upcoming game/project that has ever been featured in the “Gallery” section from the first 11 issues?
- MOORPG by Z!re and Inspiration by Wallace Software

• Which excellent QB/FB site do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Site of the Year award?
- Don't know, there so many good sites available...

There, that's my answers to the questions Smile

(MystikShadows: thank for the kind words on my site  )
If swimming is so good for your figure, how do you explain walruses?

To all of you again:

I said to Pete from my last reply here that I was gonna make a couple of awards for QB/FB Legends of the Year and QB/FB Site of the Year, respectively, and I meant it richly. Smile ! So without further delay, here are my new award designs so far:
Took me just around a couple of hours to do them, between the previous reply of mine here and this one that you are looking at right now. Wink=b

And I will be doing the new plaques pertaining to them before the deadline. Plenty of time left here, you know. :king:

See you all once again, and do enjoy the new designs to compliment the 1st anniversary issue of QB Express!!! (^-^)v !
