Quote:So I figured after the last update and the upgrade, I wouldn't have any more problems with HostGator ( www.hostgator.com ). Little did I know, they strive to be the least customer service oriented hosting company on the internet.

It started with the transfer of the site. I paid for the upgrade and the account was set up. They were then supposed to transfer the files from the old server to the new server. One would believe this would be simple enough as both servers are located near them and it would seem a simple image would get the transfer done right away. Upon completion of the transfer, I was supposed to be notified. Unfortunately that never happened.

So a few days later, after sending in some requests asking whether or not the transfer had been completed, I was told it had been on the original day of the upgrade. The problem with this is that meant there would be a few days lag between the servers. If I transferred the domain to the new nameservers, then a bunch of files and posts would be missing that were uploaded to the old server (where the domains were pointing). I didn't think that much of a gap was appropriate for us to be able to serve everyone, so I asked the host if they would once again image the server to the new one and then notify right away (which they were supposed to do the first time) so that I could change the nameservers. This is where the fun started.

About an hour after transfer was started they sent me a message saying most of the files I asked for to be transferred over were transferred. They were not able to transfer the db at the time though because of a difference in mySQL between the two servers. They said they would notify me when the the change between versions was complete. I should have known from the previous experiences this would not be the case.

I got a message later that day explaining that everything should be up for me (not saying anything about the mySQL change). I went to check on the status of the sites on the new server and come across some db errors at FileAnchor. I bypass what should be anger with the fact that everything wasn't set up and send them an email asking why there's an error. They reply back asking if I changed the script for FileAnchor to match the new db. Well that would be all well and dandy if the db got moved to the new host. Hell, I'd be happy to be able to see the db, but I can't log into cpanel on the new server (it just takes me to the old server every time) but no matter how many times I ask about that I don't get an answer, but that's for another time. Now I am starting to get angry.

I reply back telling them that they were to move the db, but there was an error and that I have had no access to it. I get told by a HostGator technician (whom I spoke with on aim) that they were in the process of upgrading the server today. That's odd...I'm pretty sure I got an email yesterday saying that everything was finished and should work fine. I ask him to give me an update when this is finished.

Eleven hours have gone by and I haven't heard anything. I've written three emails that have all had no response during this time. Everyone there seems to not know what the other is doing. Even the owner can't figure it out.

As if all of this isn't enough, they somehow in the movement of the db from the old server to the new one lost about a day's worth of posts and files. I don't mean lost in the fact that they didn't make it to the new server. I mean they somehow took a backup of the old server (where all the most current data is held) and overwrote the old server and new server with it. This set both behind on data, which negates the whole intention of re-transferring everything in the first place. Hopefully no one attempted to upload anything and lost it later on.

So, to sum up everything I've said above: do not, under any circumstance use HostGator for any type of hosting. A transfer that should have been done in less than a day is now going on a week. Files are lost and databases have been screwed up. We'll be able to fix everything, but that means more backed up time for Rune and I. I'll be looking for a new host in the next few days.

Thanks to everyone for their patience and my apologies go out to everyone for any inconvenience you've suffered at HostGator's hands.

Email Upgrade Promo Over

All people who emailed me for the upgrade should have now received it. If you sent in an email (before this day) and didn't get your upgrade, let me know.
