But now when I see LEGO sets in toy stores they always have lots of weird specialized pieces that would be useless for anything else... oh well.

Agh! I know what you mean! Theyve ruined it by making pieces like the kind you would find in a model kit or something - completely non generic and only useful for one purpose. Ugh!

They had a lot of financial problems, so they're trying out new concepts (after failing badly at pc/console market), and trying to find new groups of customers. Unfurtunately, the new stuff sucks badly. However many kids seem to like it, even though it imo takes away the best thing about lego - having to use your imagination to build cool stuff.

Putting together three parts to create a tank just doesnt cut it...

I always spent days or weeks building stuff like big ships and stuff, making up as I went... But I guess most kids dont have that kind of patience today.

Well, Lego technic OWNS I would consider buying a mindstorms set
if it had more inputs/outputs and wasn't so [...] expensive.

The thing about the "new" Lego being worse than the old is that children today
can still play with their parents' sets so nobody buys new sets...
