Anim8or vs Blender 3D
#1
I'm looking for a 3D modeling tool. I know that Anim8or and Blender are free, but the reason I've been looking at them is because they have low system requirements. I have an old computer Cry and I would use Lightwave and WorldBuilder/Vue and all that stuff, but I can't find any old versions of them anywhere.

So which do you guys think is better/has more doc's. Blender or Anim8or?

Anim8or can do somethings (a lot of things) simpler than Blender
blender supports more features than Anim8or (like plug-ins)

A lot of people like to use both.

Just downloaded Anim8or, seems to be really fast.

Anim8or is easy to use and quite intuitive, whereas blender is more
advanced.

Anim8or helped ease me into 3d modeling and when I was ready I moved to blender. 'Tis not a bad way to go, imo.

What exactly are your system specs? I was using LW7 on a 750mhz athlon with 64mb ram for a long time. Do you have less than that?

I reccommend Anim8or if you have a less advanced system since it works faster(867 Mhz 256 MB RAM Riva TNT2), much faster than blender. However, for a more advanced system, I recommend blender if you are an already expirianced modeler...

Anim8or would be a good start, since the interface is simpler, and it has some good tut's for it to get you going....

Tho, when you want to move ahead, Blender has more tricks, an advance interface that gives you a lot more controll, and the renderer totaly rocks Anim8or's imo....

Not trying to go off-topic, but has anyone ever seen a copy of Lightwave previous to v6.5?

Hey, Anim8or is quite easy to use...nice. Big Grin I checked out the guy's eggplant tutorial...although mine didn't come out quite as well as his, at least I understood what I was doing...even if it took three times to grasp the basics...

I imported it into Poser 4, then tinkered with the colours and reflection a bit and then rendered it with a black background and antialiasing for clarity.
