Quote:heh This thread is really quite nice. Pretty interesting backgrounds here. I have to wonder, Zack... why is it you have a gestapo marching as your avatar? Also, not sure how Jewish you are, but I've enjoyed learning/singing Hebrew songs/prayers.
No, no, no! That there is BJ Blazkowicz, American hero! He killed Hitler and brought down the Nazi war machine so many times I've lost count. Haven't you ever played Wolf 3D?

I'm 62.5 percent Jewish, but I (along with the rest of my family) am pretty religious. When were you learning Hebrew? You Jew?

Oh yeah, just got my sprites mixed up. Knew he was from the same game.

I'm not ethnically Jewish, but my father has converted to Messianic Judaism so when I visit I attend synagogue with him. A lot of the service is still in Hebrew. I also took a year of Hebrew in Bible school and did very well. My father bought me a nice copy of the Tehilim for Hannukah a year ago, and I have enjoyed learning to read from it. I think in general I just appreciate Jewish thought/insight into Scripture and God/Man's relationship. At least what I've read/heard. I'm sure different circles all think differently, much like Christian thinking (which can be very off the wall at times..).

(I have often been told I look Jewish, tho.. mostly because of my curly hair/nose.)

my names mario, i live in a small town in austria, always been here. learned the joy of programming on a 486 with qb 1.1 after having years of fun at my uncle's house playing games on various plattforms like the c64, amiga 500 and whatnot. i'm trying to pretend to be a musician at times, was a skater once and am not a virgin anymore ( oh i'm also not fancy enough to be homosexual or bi ). i was told to be a christian but that somewhat passed me completely. christmas and the shitload of holidays is fun though. i also like boobs.

Gotta love it! I had a great WWII flying ace game though I can't remember the name. Lode Runner was of course awesome, and so was Star Trek. And Zork. 8)

Ryan, you maybe thinking of ACE or ACE II, or perhaps 1942...

Co & Co was also good, along with Boulderdash, all series, especially 4 and above. US Gold's Turbo Outrun was also not bad, but only because of the theme song running at about 8 minutes long. Remember how the C64 was only had a three channel SID? Must have been a lot of sound switching in that song...

lol Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was one of those games you mentioned. I'll go look for some screenies. In any event, you ran missions against opposing aces, rockets, or U-Boats and got to bomb stuff. 8) And the Boulderdash series was definitely great. And BC. Anyone play that? Collecting clam shells, riding a unicycle to higher levels?

I was in the opposite band - at least in Europe. We had a nifty computer-war in the 80s, mainly Sinclair ZX Spectrum vs. Commodore 64. I was from Sinclair Big Grin

The thing is that none of them is better, as each one has very strong points.

You C64'ers, if you have nostalgia you may want to visit http://www.lemon64.com/

Btw, I'm in a retro-coding group. We currently have ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Amiga and MSX coders and we need Atari ST and C64 coders who want to make games Smile We are setting up a virtual shop where you'll be able to buy actual physical copies of the games (i.e. tapes or disks, complete with inlay, box and stuff!) - the money we'll be asking for in the shop goes to cover the duplication costs and nothing else.

Are you interested - or know someone who knows 6502 assembly and wants to join a couple of C64 graphists we have to make a great game? Wink

Meh. I actually have a working system along with four huge boxes full of disks. Anyone remember GEOS?
