Internet Explorer will not end process after closing window
#11
Sounds more like spyware than a virus. When I used Windows I ran Ad-Aware once a week, it seemed like the best one out there.
f you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows.

I use both Spybot and Ad-aware. Good programs.

There are several pieces of malware that specifically affect IE. Often, they start two IE processes, and can respawn an additional one if you kill it manually. The argument of "it was on my computer" is pretty silly though...you have installed many programs that your computer did not come with, and switching to Firefox IS a very effective method of stopping this kind of problem. If you don't like the suggestion then fine, but don't be a snot to people who are trying to help your ungrateful ass.

if you mean by help him make up his mind for him, then whatever you need to tell yourself is fine. truth of the matter is of course there is malware, spyware, and viruses specifically targeting IE. the reasoning behind it is it's the standard for web browsing. i guarantee a year from now all that shit will just be targeting firefox.

the argument "we're right because we believe we are" is alot more ridiculous than "i don't need to install another browser". Firefox has problems just like IE.

it's not being snotish, it's simple. he uses IE, he has an IE question, he didn't come here asking you all for what browser he should use. your "help" isn't appreciated when he doesn't ask for it. seriously if you guys want to talk about firefox start a topic on it, don't de-rail someone elses.

Firefox does have an advantage of being open source and holes in security features will be found and sorted out by hardcore geeks like us. People use the argument that the virus and spyware writers will use the source to find ways around that, but in my opinion real software developers are a lot smarter than those who write spyware for a living.

I agree with the fact that there aren't as many malware programs that target Firefox because IE is the standard. But I think of that as the reason to use it, I use the same arguement when trying to convince people to switch to Macs. Unfortunately a larger base means there will be a larger number of assholes writing viruses and malware for them.

Thank you, however, I run adaware, spybot, and AVG weekly. None have detected the malware. Any other ideas? I'd rather not switch to another internet browser like I said earlier.

Has anybody else had this problem?

What I meant before when I said that it came with the computer is literally that when I unpackaged it, plugged it into the power outlet, internet explorer among other things were already installed.

What was the last bug you fixed in Firefox?

Err, spyware exists, and it infects programs developed by "real" software developers. Spyware developers tend to be one step ahead of the software developers, i.e. software developers are writing bugfixes and patches to fix spyware problems.

Liquid Snake: Try downloading hijackthis (available here) and posting the log from it. Just do the log, don't do any fixes yet.

Mech, drop the bullshit. This has nothing to do with favouritism or browser zealousy so just knock it off. It was a solid suggestion that actually WORKS, so get off of your high horse.

and yet people presist to tell him to use firefox. honestly its like he's driving a sedan and the rest of you want him driving a sports car. he doesn't care what you have to say, yet you keep telling him to anyway, i'd say thats zealotism.

and not just you Nek, all of you. it's getting old. none of you have a duty to convert people over to firefox so just drop the whole cult thing. and i know thats not the case all the time but it seems to be spreading like wildfire.

Ok, maybe I came off a little harsh on the not using IE thing, but I have my reasons:

1. some pages don't render well
2. this problem isn't a virus, it has happened to me on my computer that has never actually connected to the internet
3. IE is a very big target for malware and spyware

And about the making a program, you could simply use FreeBASIC and the windows API to check processes and kill them.
