Internet Explorer will not end process after closing window
#21
Yeah Mech, YOUR high horse. Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick man, only ONE person mentioned Firefox before me, and you act like the whole forum's gone mental. No one's trying to convert anyone, no one's trying to shove shit down anyone's throat, no one's joined any fucking cult. So stop YOUR shit already, because the whole "ZOMG FIERFOX ZEALOTZ KULT0RZ LEMME HUG MY IE" bullshit is getting old. I'm sick and fucking tired of IE lovers going apeshit every time someone mentions Firefox as an alternative. And if he didn't care what people had to say, then maybe he shouldn't have asked in the first place. Whether or not you like the answers people give, if you ask a question then you're going to get answers...period. Didn't they teach you this shit in 1st grade?

1) he asked how to fix a problem with IE, not what browser he should use.

2) I use Opera, not IE. Opera does best what i need it to do so don't go assuming things.

3) Nobody but loose and myself tried to fix his problem without mentioning firefox, and i think the original poster himself made it very clear that he likes using IE and doesn't want to change it. if he had a problem with Firefox would you be trying to convert him to something else? no. so don't do the same just because he's using IE.

He wants to get his problem fixed, he doesn't want you to shove this firefox bullshit down his throat. so if you've got nothing else to say that would help him fix his problem WITH IE, then shove it.

Liquid Snake:
when did you upgrade SP2? (or have you). My brother was having the same problem, i forgot how he fixed it though. i'll get back to you after i talk to him.

Easy fix: Reformat hard drive, reinstall Windows and programs, restore data from backup

Hard fix: Actually find out what bit of malware you've got and remove it (Ad-Aware, SpyBot S&D, Windows Defender, etc.)

Mech, YOU shove it, jackass. No one was trying to convert him, and I didn't shove anything down his throat. Do you know how to read?

Anyways, Liquid Snake, my wife's mother's computer had a similar problem, and continues to get the similar problem due to malware that targets IE (and her own computer illiteracy). The only fix for it is an OS reinstall, and then avoiding moronic websites that cause problems or opening unknown attachments in your email. Once I installed an alternate browser on her computer and made it the default, the problem disappeared for good but you don't want to go that route so your options are limited to the above. Malware writers are always two steps ahead of the anti-malware writers, so the only way to protect yourself is to avoid the problems to begin with.

What was the last bug you fixed in Firefox?

No need, I use Safari Tongue

As for your IE problem. If none of the malware or virus programs are finding anythings (try in safe mode too,) then you may have to reformat, it could be a new virus.

Doesn't IE run constantly anyways? I'm on a PC right now and I'm using Firefox, when I Ctrl-Alt-Del, IE is running. The entire browsing system is centred around it and if the desktop is visible IE must be running. Your configuration might just be an extremely rare bug in Windows and for some reason blocks the process from ending.

An another related note, all you Firefox users are still using IE for file browsing so don't take too many stabs at it.
f you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices. The scary part is that if you play it forwards it installs Windows.

What if I just upgraded my internet explorer? I've got 6.0. Think that would do the trick or do you think the problem would remain?
Not yet Snake! It's not over yet!

That's pretty much the same thing as switching to Firefox, except your problem might still remain.

Liquid Snake, give it a try. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work but it can't hurt.

Well the thing is that the school I'm living at, for now, warned against upgrading to internet explorer 7.0 for a reason I cannot remember.

I tried firefox out, and I simply like internet explorer more.
