Remaining users of QB
#41
I think the point is that nobody was really bashing anyone. About the Menno thing... Well, why let one bad apple spoil the whole damn bunch? I should have just ignored him too.

I think you got it right Dr_D. Started out as a miss interpretation of what I was saying (for my part)... I guess the suggestion box was full back then ;-)... Or maybe there never was one and I assumed there was one being an open source project. Anyways, that was then, this is now ;-)
hen they say it can't be done, THAT's when they call me ;-).

I use QB very rarely at all any more. It's handy if you need to test cross-platform.

I admit, this post is a bit out of topic, but I feel the urge to tell two particular forum members to behave themselves, especially in this thread.

I have been away for a while, and upon my return, I am strongly displeased (and disgusted) with being called a "retarded fucking moron" by Z!re and opposed (albeit indirectly) by Cha0s.

Since this thread is existing with the sole purpose of uncovering the number of remaining QB users, it is absolutely NO place for foul talk and advertisement of FB, no matter how fine a program it is claimed to be! You hear me, Z!re and Cha0s?

Do think before posting! (and yes, this time, I was greatly annoyed!)

I used to be able to have an intelligible conversation on this forum but now it seems it's just trolling galore outside a few select threads. I think it's been offset somewhat from fbtk's spam forum which as literally become a cespool of spam from spambots.

A few.
In the beginning, there is darkness – the emptiness of a matrix waiting for the light. Then a single photon flares into existence. Then another. Soon, thousands more. Optronic pathways connect, subroutines emerge from the chaos, and a holographic consciousness is born." -The Doctor

QB can be fun, but there's nothing fun about it when you find out that no one else can run your game. You can't use EMS libs anymore because it's a pain (and sometimes impossible) to enable it with the new versions of Windows. You can use DosBox, but that's too slow (and inconvenient for users). You can try some other memory management system, and your game still might not work with ME/XP/Vista. It's just more convenient nowadays to use a modern compiler, such as FreeBasic, or to move on to C/C++/Java/etc. Anything I make I want it to be as playable on as many (modern) computers as possible. It's just not worth it to devote so much time into making something that won't be compatible with 90% of the computers that download it. The DOS market is just a niche now. I miss it. I mean, DOS was fun and simple, but no one supports it anymore.

I was hesitant to switch to FB at first... mainly because I'm a slave to IDEs... but when I found FBIde, I tried it, and now I'm doing things that are at least 1.785834*10^15 times better than what I could do in QB... so I haven't gone back. That and it's a lot more efficient on the computers I am currently running (Windows XP) to run a windows-based IDE rather than a DOS-based one...

I haven't really changed my coding style... I've embraced a FEW of the commands that are exclusively FB, but for the most part it's still QB, but with enough power to make it almost MORE than a pet language.
