Maybe it's just me, but who really cares about their post count?

Isn't that a bit of the point of this thread? Anyway, it's a good deterrent to the occasional idiot anyway. It'd be pretty transparent to current users, because if you don't care about your posts you won't mind some of your post count disappearing...

Who cares about a post count? That's true. I mean, look at Moneo. 800 posts. That's not TONS. Although he is one of the best coders here. And you Plasma. No big post count. But big intelligence.
But there's one thing that nobody can ignore: post count does slightly inflate the amount of respect one gets. I mean, if someone with three posts asked a question, you wouldn't treat it with as much respect/importance than if a person with 3000 posts asked it.

You call 800 posts small!!!!!!!!!! Thats insane, i average less than 100(prolly less than 50) posts a board, and dont think it will go up anytime soon.

On a side note, ive been venting this in my sig for nearly a year now, and its done little good. But the externally linked smilies trend seems to have gone down, so i removed it.

And some people do care. Which is why we should just remove post counts all together and instead go by karma. Or registered date.

i only use externally linked smilies for special occasions, but i really havent seen a lot of people using them....

Thats why i removed it. It was around the time Hex posted a lot(before you registered), he seemed to like linking to those army smilies with guns, and then EVERYONE started adding different smilies to their posts. Those were the days.........

Hah! Yeah, now start blaming me because if I like to scratch my ass with the left hand, everyone and the friggin' dog will also jump the wagon to do the same thing.

Jokes aside, in the end it's all matter of common sense and a bit of respect for the other forum users. We've already discussed that.

Zack, about your "post count does slightly inflate the amount of respect one gets", I just do a very simple thing on this kind of forums to check the "respect-o-meter": click on the profile and check not the total, but the average. Some people apparently have no life outside the forum, and that doesn't make you "elite", just a "no-lifer". Some people are actually proud of that, also.

To finish, I'd like to point something out:

"If you want to look clever, take into consideration two things: know when to RTFM and know when to STFU". Just guess which thing you're missing.

Nath has one of the highest average daily posts on this forum and I have a heck of a lot of respect for him, and I imagine he has a good life outside QBN. So it doesnt always work...

My average is 5.94 posts per day. What's the time needed to post 5.94 posts a day? Take 2 minues per post. That makes less than 12 minutes. That leaves 23 hours and 48 minutes of life outside the forum
