I think also think gameplay is a big role in games these days, but I still love a game with good graphics. I mean, come on. If you see a game which has beautiful graphics these days, it does make you go "oooooh!", doesnt it
I love Halo Soooo much, because It combines oodles of everything that makes a great game. First of all, the story is there. A very original, invloving plot which really has you on edge the entire time. Then there is the gameplay. It is awesome. Amazing. The gameplay is perfectly refined and balanced. The weapons are very believable, as are the characters and enemies. Then there is the graphics. When I first saw Halo, It was heart stopping, (2 years ago I think?) Everything looks amazing. Bumpmapping EVERYWHERE, special effects EVERYWHERE, for example you run out on to a snowy plain, and the snow glistens in the light of the evening, and looks beautiful. You walk out into a huge valley, and you really get the impression you are there. Then, there is the replay value. This is what stunned me most about the game. Everygame that I have played, even all of the good ones eventually get to a point where you have played them enough, and they are boring. That has never happened with Halo. Im not really to sure myself why that is.
So, I have come to the conclusion that a good game isnt just good gameplay. It is everything, an I admit I still fall for games with good graphics these days. But one of the most important factors is the replay value. I guess that usually comes from having good gameplay. So everything is interlinked and everything important within a game.
Well, thats my opinion anyway ^_^
