lol. Yeah, I've toned it down a little since this... That many particles crash it with two people actually playing.

Dude, that smix lib suxs. It can't even install the ISR properly. Don't use it. You know, MIDAS sound system has a real mode port for borland pascal. That lib owns, it plays mods. And i'm sure it gives you additional channels to do you own stuff with.
oship me and i will give you lots of guurrls and beeea

Perfect. I didn't really like SMIX, except that it seemed to work on at least a few XP machines. I just couldn't find any alternatives. If Midas will play sounds and MOD files, that'd be perfect. Thanks for the pointer.

Looking at the code makes me think why Pascal is very fast!!! LOL

An ATN every frame?!!!! And you are using floats!!!! Wow and no slowdown on a 233!!!

It goes on my 90MHz
but with a lot of explosion particles it sows down, but still fully
playable and worth it!

P.S. Can you promise my brother that the left player has as much
life as the first?

Are you serious? I wouldn't have expected it to really be playable on less than a 300... there's going to be options in later versions for toning down (or up) the particle and schrapnel spawns.

lol. Well, all the characters have equal shields. The martian's shield regenerates slightly faster, though. And the health varies from character to character. The martian has 20% less and the fallout guy has 20% more.

We've found the most 'n00b-friendly' character to play is the martian, while the most powerful is the forest one.

If you want to modify the character stats, check the charinfo.dat file.

There's an arctan every frame for each missile onscreen. I didn't know they were particularly slow. I could eliminate it, of course, by storing the velocities for the missiles in angle and velocity rather than xchng and ychng. I just assumed that all the trig ratios were look-up tables...

Yeah, all the positions and velocities are floats. That's how it glides the way it does... actually, I'm not sure how I'd make a sidescroller with integers...

Eek. Which version of the code did you look at? It's like 2000 lines of mostly uncommented crap... I'm too lazy at this point, but if I ever do an 2d OGL one, I'll do a proper class structure for the particles and players.

BTW - the next release will contain the single player 'training mode'. I don't have the skill to code a real bot for it, so there'll be a hovering training bot that shoots missiles and lazers at you and you're scored on the training based on the ratio of damage taken to damage dealt.

Actually ATN is not that slow as its only performed in your first missile. But what amazes me are the floats!!! 1000+ and no slowdown!!! :*)

The code I was looking at was Earmark. heh it's well coded and I don't need comments to understand a well coded game. :*)

BTW, If you ever finish the game. Can you submit it to my upcoming site along with source as I would only accept sourced proggies and that goes to me as well.

As of now Joakim game me the source to Green Martian.

BTW, if you are coing to use solid sprites, you could edit the Spr routine not to check color 255.

The game will be open sourced on release (or to whoever wants it whenever they want it... it just makes an unnecessarily large upload for my lowly dialup)

We have an incredibly cool 3dsMax-done intro sequence that's like 70 MBs, so the entire game will be freeware, but we will sell 'special edition' discs just in case anyone is hardcore enough to want the version with the incredibly cool 3d intro vid. I think we'll just tell folks to stick $5 between a few sheets of paper in an envelope with a couple stamps and a return address sticker...
