It's a shame that I didn't find this post before I read Qb express #12, but this post deserves to be responded to anyway. My review of Opa Opa has been criticised by many, mainly for being too harsh. In a previous messageboard post, I explained that the article was intended to be tongue in cheek, and not outrightly harsh. I accept that not many people found my explanation believable. It is of course the right of individuals to judge such things for themselves, and I support this even though such judgements may be ill informed.
So to clarify things, I support critisicm of my work by people who don't agree with what I say. I find criticism interesting, and on this messageboard, I often find it to be a bit of laugh. However, I have noted that some critisicm has not been directed at my writing, but rather at me personally. I find this much less interesting.
It appears to me that Adigun A. Polack's creation of for the "Worst Review" Category was a thinly disguised, and brutally succesful personal attack aimed at me. For evidence of this, I have looked at all the categories, and I have found a pattern. Examine the following categories, and you may discover this pattern too:
Quote:⢠What is the best and *most* inspiring QB or FB tutorial that has ever been written for QB Express 1-11?
⢠What was the BEST ground-breaking news story that has ever been introduced from within the first 11 issues?
⢠Which excellent QB/FB programmer/group do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Legends of the Year award?
⢠What is the BEST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
⢠What is the WORST game review that you have ever read in QB Express 1-11?
⢠What was your favorite upcoming game/project that has ever been featured in the âGalleryâ section from the first 11 issues?
⢠Which excellent QB/FB site do you think should be nominated for the QB/FB Site of the Year award?
There is only one category which deals with the "worst" of anything. I find this interesting, as there was planty of scope for a "Worst" rejoinder to every "best" category. Although I hesitate to say it, I have found that on occasion, some very average tutorials have made there way into the qb express. I have also come across some very ordinary qb sites, just through google. Maybe I am the only one, but I would have been very interested to see the response to a category addressing the question of who the worst QB/FB programmer/group was in 2004-2005.
But none of these questions were asked. The only negative question was aimed at the qb express reviews, and specifically at my review of Opa Opa. I protest at this. In the future, if Adigun A. Polack intends on embarking upon a similar themed character assasination, I suggest that he makes his bias a little less obvious by including a "worst" category for every "best" category.
I am aware that it may be claimed that it wasn't a personal attack directed at me, but rather at a piece of my work. I disagree. Numerous direct personal attacks were directed at me in response to the creation of a "worst review" category.
A random one is this written by Adigun A. Polack himself...
Quote:lso, at first glance, when I first looked at Josephâs review indeed there, I simply thought that Cha0sâ own review of that same game was a TRUE masterpiece compared to this ( ), you know what I mean? I am not bashing anybody *or* Joseph himself, but rather in a way, I honestly feel really sorry for him, man, you know? !
What he wrote doesn't really make sense, but I think he was trying to say that he didn't mean to attack me personally.
I doubt it.
