Okay...I started setting it up while I was feeding Rhianna. I've put her down to sleep now, so I can finish it up. Anyways, it'll be here:

Quote:A few things...

1) I think we are all agreed we will be doing AD&D vs. D&D... I have no idea the difference, but what I gathered from opinions, AD&D is better.
I beleive D&D was the first version, then AD&D, then D&D v3.0, and the current is D&D v3.5, which I would recommend simply because all the current development of materials is being done in the newest ruleset...that is just my personal opinion. Some people prefer AD&D over the newer rules, its all a question of opinion. I have never played AD&D, the only reason i suggest D&D v3.5 is because its newer and current. Smile

D&D was first, then came AD&D v1, then AD&D v2, then Gary Gygax was kicked out of the picture, then came AD&D v3. Emphasis was added to when the game became crap.

The game was basically dumbed down. Stats were messed with, proficiencies were messed with, and combat was severely screwed up (they did away with THAC0, the core of the combat system). Basically, they turned it from a thinking person's game to a "set it and forget it" kiddy game where no one had to know much of anything. 3rd edition is basically 1st edition without the disorganization and with all kinds of new shortcuts and "cheats". Experience charts have been dumbed WAY down (28,000 points for a Paladin to reach level 8!). And the Cleric, my favourite class, got really screwed over with their new "skill system" which is supposed to replace Nonweapon Proficiencies.

What I find funny is that the game system was already very balanced...I guess they didn't think so, so they tried to balance it to their liking. They ended up screwing over a couple of character classes in the process, and it really sucks. 2nd edition was very balanced, and it left a lot of the game's decisions to the DM. In 3rd edition, you've got a majority of people playing Thieves (because they have such huge advantages in 3rd edition...totally unbalanced) and being rules lawyers (always looking stuff up in the book).

In short...they destroyed the game. Wizards Of The Coast pretty much destroys anything they get their hands on anyways.

Well in my experience playing it, it is not very dumbed down, but there are some significant balancing issues, as you said. People take advantage of different rules and such to make their characters powerhouses that ruin the game. I guess 2nd edition would be better to play in.
