Perhaps you are the only one here not having a pair of socks with the windows logo!

After observing your serious face, I sort of believed you. So, I shut down my machine and restared, to see the Windows logo. I've got to admit that you pulled my leg ("o mi pelo"), because I did NOT find any socks there! Fianlly, "Ha, ha" (or, "Ja, ja").

So, I asked Google, and found out why I am ignorant of this name: it's because I am not a "real" programmer, just an ameteur tinker in QuickBASIC. And, happy to remain so!

the winsocks name is probably a consequence of the 8.3 DOS file naming, it should be winsockets. It is Mr Gates' version of a widely used Unix TCP/IP library.

Hmm... I don't believe I have those either... Tongue

I like this site... I am also learning spanish (at least, I'm trying... I can understand very little at the moment), and have been reading through posts seeing if I can understand them, only better way to learn is to actually talk to a spanish speaking person, which I can't at the moment... don't know any.

Fumador, why are you posting so many topics?

Edit: Woah crap... didn't realize this was that old of a topic... *waits for everyone to start yelling at him*

Torahteen,

If you'd like, we can converse in Spanish via PM.

The only problem that I see is that you probably don't have a Spanish keyboard for doing vowels with accents, the n with a tilde, and other "diacritical marks". But, we can do without these and concentrate on conversation. What do you say?

That'd be very helpful Big Grin. About the keyboard, I have installed the spanish keyboard layout on my windows computer, so I can actually write correct spanish quite easily... I just need to remember where all the symbols and stuff are, as they have been moved :S. I'm not sure if I can get a layout on Linux, but I'll look around... Gracias! Big Grin

Edit:
Wow, that was easy lol... did you say we should use PMs? Or an Instan Messaging service like MSN? I'd like instant messaging if possible Big Grin

I applaud your interest in so many things, and, now, Spanish!

Being bilingual in Spanish/English, and having traveled/lived in various Spanish-speaking countries, such as Mexico, Guatemala, Panama and my native Costa Rica, I have observed many people trying to learnd either English or Spanish. What I have learned is that, just as in our normal lives, we find it easier to first learn to undrstand words and associated words, then to imitate those sounds and meanings, go on to short sentences, then to complex ones. After that, we go on to learning how to spell and write words, conjugate verbs, etc., then to write compositions. In short, learning how to undrstand the spoken language seems to be the natural way of learning.

I would recommend that you search in your neighborhood and school for Spanish-speaking persons who are willing to teach you a few words and their pronunciation, maybe once a week. Then, I would recommend you join a Spanish-speaking club or group, whose main aim is to maintain their Spanish-speaking ability. I know that many Mexican-originated folk love to maintain their folklore, and welcome those who wish to learn about that culture, all in Spanish.

Please investigate the groups I talked about above, as I am convinced that you will benefit greatly in your endevour to learn Spanish, by involving yourself with them.

I'm don't use messaging services. So PM would be my choice, unless you'd rather use email.

Actually, Ralph's suggestion about getting to know Spanish-speaking people, is a much better idea. Try that first. My offer still stands if you want to chat in Spanish or maybe ask me some questions.

Ralph's ideas reminded me when firends in the US would ask me how to learn Spanish. My favorite answer was: "Get yourself a Spanish speaking girlfriend who doesn't speak English. When you're romancing her, it's amazing how quickly you'll learn her language."
