Wow, you've never been to neozones.com's philosophy board, have you? He's the local theologian/philosopher, and he's often involved when there's a debate on the subject. Right or wrong he's usually very logical, thought provoking, and verbose.

I gotta agree with Rel, but as a Psychology minor, Freud's about as scientific as PT Barnum. Piaget's also received a bit of flak over the concreteness of his stages.

Last bit: Atheism is a faith itself. I've learned very few things in my life, but one of this is not to knock with people's religious convictions. Despite whatever ancient story you've heard, it's damned near impossible to change a guy's faith, and if you succeeded, it ain't worth it. Tolerance, folks.

Simply, atheism is not a faith. That's the whole point. A faith is something that you believe in despite contrary/insufficient evidence. And there is more evidence for atheism than all of the religeons of the world combined. I'm not saying that religeon is wrong, what I am saying is that I am a person who judges on evidence, and I've seen damn little to convince me that any religeon is above another, or above no religeon, that's all.

One of my favorite old sayings regarding religious belief is:
"There are no atheists in the foxholes."

I don't get it. What's a foxhole? Like a trench or something?

Yes, foxholes are trenches that soldiers dig out and get into to shoot from. They were used mostly in World War I and II.

When you're in a foxhole and bullets and shells are coming all over the place, it can be a very scary place. At this point, if you never found religion before, you will probably find it now.
