Quote:Besides, don't all songs just sound the same these days? For example, rock = verse + chorus + verse + chorus + bridge + chorus.
Yeah, pretty much. It's sickening.
What metal do you listen to?

Quote:2.- [Linkin Park] ALL THEIR SONGS SOUND LIKE THE SAME THING! -> 1st mellow part, then rap part, then shouting, then mellow, then rap, then shouting, then shouting + rap. Heh, I tried this at work one night. Loaded both Meteroa and Hybrid theory into the players and started up Papercut, grab headphones and cue up Somewhere I belong to the chorus. Most Linkin Park songs have a rap verse, then a small gap (with a sort of buildup whoosh sound) and then the chorus, as soon as the song hits the gap, I drop the volume on the first song and play the second, I got through about 5 songs or so. Sounded kinda cool ;-) Quote:Never heard the phrase Mallcore, but nu metal is ussually the garbage stuff like slipknot, system of a down, any kind of band like that (think most metal wanna be bands who dont really know how to play their instruments). I disagree, Metal (at least heavy/death metal) is usually quite fast and backed by lots of heavy drum rolls and bass, the vocals are usually screaming or a mix of screaming and singing. Bands like Slipknot, Sepultura, 8 Foot Sativa and Mudvayne are modern metal bands. Bands like System of a Down, Disturbed and Tool are more alternative rock, often with a little bit of metal thrown in. Bands like Linkin Park and Blindspott are Nu-Metal. In the 80's metal meant heavy alternative rock, bands such as Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden and Motorhead were classified as Metal bands in the 80's, but compared to the Metal being released these days they are more alternative rock. Quote:And they even dared to cover that Smashing Pumpkins' masterpiece called Zero Didn't know they covered that. I hate when mediocre or crap bands cover really good songs, because the comericial market always picks up on the crap song. I heard a cover of Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd for the uneducated ;-)) by a band called Scissor Sisters or something, it was awful, a complete insult to one of the great songs of the rock 'n' roll era. Quote:Rob Zombie (yeah yeah, some people think he's a hack, I like his songs so eat me ) Rob Zombie (and of course White Zombie) is the dude! Great mix of errie Transylvanian music, heavy vocals, a touch of humour and catchy songs. Get the House of 1000 corspes album if you dont already have it. Two metal bands that I am really getting into at the moment are Mudvayne and 8 Foot Sativa. Mudvayne are like experimental metal, kinda a mix of real hardcore and mellow stuff. Some good songs to have a listen to are Dig and (-1). 8 Foot Sativa are New Zealands answer to metal, so I dont know if the rest of the world have heard of them yet, but they have a very heavy, pure metal sound. Metal fans out there should try and find a copy of Fuel Set or Destined to be Dead to get an idea of their sound.

Quote:I disagree, Metal (at least heavy/death metal) is usually quite fast and backed by lots of heavy drum rolls and bass, the vocals are usually screaming or a mix of screaming and singing.Depends on what type of metal. If you group metal as death(heavy and death or in no way related, you can classify ac/dc as heavy metal, or rock. Not death) then of course everything is double peddeling and screaming. Quote:Bands like Slipknot, Sepultura, 8 Foot Sativa and Mudvayne are modern metal bands*Checks* Okay, i thought my memory was fading. how can Sepultura be a "modern" rock band when theve been around nearly as long as metallica? Slipknot is nu metal. Wait in bleed was a good song, the rest of the albumn was okay, but their second albumn was so bad it wasnt a joke. Its no suprise you can find that cd selling for less than 5$(i got it as a gift for >3$ american, brand new, on sale, and i still felt it was a waste of money). Evanesence are Nightwish wannabes, so I have to agree with Nathan, nu-garbage Quote:In the 80's metal meant heavy alternative rock, bands such as Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden and Motorhead were classified as Metal bands in the 80's, but compared to the Metal being released these days they are more alternative rock.I disagree. Black sabbath have some of the heaviest metal i have heard. Cranking the Ride the lightning CD from metallica makes the modern "metal" you mentioned sound like mainstream rock(which it more or less is). Iron Maiden is classified as power metal. Slayer's Reign in blood from the 80's is insanely heavy, and is considered to be the one of best death metal cd's. Alternative rock it is not. And for my metal list, since i can never remember 90% of the stuff i listen too, ill copy and tweak some lists: Quote:Iron Maiden

Quote:You're too heavy for me. Those are the bands I listen to (international): My music taste is actual quite broad, most of the metal/heavy rock I listen to is from work, but I have a huge stack of vinyl at home (and a hifi deck to play them on 8)), I have stuff like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, 10cc, Jethro Tull, David Bowie, Talking Heads, The Beatles, etc.

Oh sorry, I forgot Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull...
And I can listen to heavy metal and stuff like that. I like the oldest the better (Black Sabbath) but I like some German based bands that play at 300 bpm (gamma ray)

What would be really scary is putting one of those power-punk bands and slow them down to a 90 bmp slow rock
