FLU POLL... sort of..
#31
Quote:Well, flu is more than a cold. It is caused by certain kinds of vira, the cold isn't (it is just a slight body defences fault caused by many things).
Actually when it's just the immune system going haywire it's an alergic reaction. Yes, the symptoms of the common cold are just our bodies' defenses at work, but the common cold really is caused by viruses. Many many diferent viruses, in fact. That's why we don't develope immunity to it, because there is no one "it" to become immune to - it's a different strain or sometimes an entirely different virus each time.

I regularly get sick about twice a year, and it last 2-3 weeks each time. Probably seasonal allergies.

If you walked into a clinic, and then they handed you a clear substance, and don't you to eat it, without telling you what was in it, would you eat it? I wouldn't. And vaccines fall into the same mould.

Well, medicine has saved my life Big Grin

I know what I am having when I get medication. And I agree with it.

Medical scientists had identified over 200 different strains of the common cold when I was a child. Who knows how many exist today, considering its high mutation rate.

Modern Western medical science is good for some things: Emergencies.
My grandfather got radiation treatment a couple of years ago for prostate cancer. They told him, literally, that it works and will cause no discomfort in the future. Now? It destroyed his bowel, and he had to get surgery, and is still in immense pain and difficulty.
Best go with Oriental medicine for non-immediately-critical illnesses.
And you know what's in your medicine? Name what all the ingredients do in the medicine you take.

but if it wasnt for vaccines, we would still have children dying from polio and smallpox.

I need to have antihistaminics and corticoids from time to time to keep living. When by bronchs close there is no oriental medicine that can help. Without peniciline, the viruela or polio vaccines, as Rhiannon has said, many children would still die before they are 2 years old.

Oriental medicine may help you carry a healthy life, but when you are ill nothing like the good ol' chemistry, that's my opinion.

not really, depends on the cause. If it's asthma then yea, it's an emergency if your inhaler doesnt work. Back in my early college days i had breathing problems becuz of my allergies, sinuses and other stuff which gave me respiratory infections, and on occasion my bronchiis narrowed slighty, but not enough to be considered an emergency.

My point still stands: it's good for emergencies.
Even if you're in pain, there are accupressure points and herbs.
